Transfer guide

How Transfers Work

A straightforward path from your online purchase to an appointment-based pickup in Troy.

WDF coordinates the licensed-dealer exchange with your seller, receives and checks in the shipment, then contacts you to schedule the in-person transfer process.

  1. Complete your purchase

Tell the online seller that you want to use Wolverine Defensive Firearms in Troy, Michigan as the receiving FFL. Do not represent WDF as the seller; WDF provides transfer services only.

  2. Send the basic transaction details

Email WDF with your name and contact details, the seller’s business name and contact, your order number, item count and general category, and expected shipment or tracking information if available. If you are new to WDF, include a picture of your driver’s license and CPL, if you have one.

  3. Let WDF coordinate with the seller

WDF sends the required license information directly to the seller. Ask the seller not to ship until required dealer information has been exchanged and accepted.

  4. Wait for the arrival notice

Carrier tracking that says “delivered” does not mean an item is ready for pickup. WDF checks the shipment into its records and contacts you by email or telephone after it is ready to schedule.

  5. Attend the scheduled appointment

Bring valid government-issued identification and any other document WDF specifically asks you to present in person. Complete the required forms and eligibility check. Approval is not guaranteed.

For a pistol or revolver: You need either a CPL or a License to Purchase obtained from your local police department or sheriff’s office.

What to have ready

  • Your full name, email address, and telephone number
  • The seller or shipping FFL’s business name and contact information
  • Order number, purchase date, and online seller or marketplace
  • Number and general category of items in the shipment
  • Expected ship date and tracking number, if the seller has supplied them
  • A picture of your driver’s license and CPL, if you have one and are new to WDF
  • For a handgun transfer, a CPL or License to Purchase from your local police department or sheriff’s office

Allow time for required processing

In-person paperwork often takes approximately 5–10 minutes when identification, records, and systems are complete and available. Delays, further review, a denied status, incorrect records, or return arrangements can take longer.
